Overview

Hortas do Rio is a relaxing, rural quinta bordering the sand dunes of the Pontal da Carrapateira.

Hortas do Rio began life as small, rural farmstead known as Casa de Campo, before being converted into a charming, modern small hotel in keeping with the best of Portugal’s Turismo Rural.

There are just seven rooms in total – their décor is clean and contemporary, whilst cleverly retaining the rustic, agricultural feel of the original casa. Rooms are air-conditioned and ensuite, each with its own terrace overlooking the Bordeira hills. Breakfast is served in the shared main building, with its shaded garden terrace leading to the outdoor pool. It’s also a comfortable, sociable guest lounge with an honesty bar in the evenings

Following the nearby Ribeira da Carrapateira to its end, it’s ten-minute walk to Praia da Bordeira – one of the region’s quieter beaches thanks to its wild, remote setting. For a fix of civilisation, the village of Carrapateira, with it’s pretty blue and whitewashed Algarve architecture, is a ten-minute stroll south.
